Congestion on the Sunshine Motorway has become a bit of an issue as of late, particularly around the Yandina – Coolum Road intersection.
Department of Transport & Main Roads are in active discussions with Barns Lane Farm management to coordinate the works associated with access to Barns Lane Farm and the upgrade of Coolum-Yandina Road and the Sunshine Motorway.
Transport & Main Roads (TMR) has unveiled their preferred concept for upgrading Coolum-Yandina Road and the Sunshine Motorway. One of the best parts of the proposal is an “Active Transport Underpass” at the end of Barns Lane. This will make it easy for pedestrians and cyclists to access the Western side of the Motorway from the Northern end of Barns Lane. We’re thrilled about this much-needed connection.
TMR’s preferred concept also involves transforming the School Road roundabout into a signalised intersection. Interestingly, this aligns with the conditions of approval for Barns Lane Farm, where an extra through lane heading East through the roundabout was needed. TMR has already reached out to us to discuss how we can work together to avoid disrupting the community unnecessarily by undertaking upgrade works that will become redundant shortly after completion.
